Besides the options already mentioned, there's a handy script
called "recolor" in the AIcons support software (available
at ftp://ftp.cs.indiana.edu/pub/AIcons/support.tar.gz).
You need NetPBM installed, too. For maintaining the Picons
collections, I use this and the colormap/greymap files in
ftp://ftp.cs.indiana.edu/pub/faces/picons/src/bits-*. Using these map
files means you're using the same standard reduced colorset that the
picons and other conforming systems use. However, for color XPMs of
people, they can often look pretty lousy and you have to resort to using
the greyscale map.
